What makes the Universal Cattle Guard so unique is its remarkably simple design that is just as effective as older style cattle guards at deterring livestock from crossing. The design of the end wings let them fold out on a hinge at the base of the Universal Cattle Guard, making installing the Universal Cattle Guard in gate openings of various widths simple. Center the Universal Cattle Guard between your existing gate posts, lean the end wings against the posts, & wrap the provided chains around the posts. The end wings & chains act as a barrier for livestock and also help prevent movement of the Universal Cattle Guard.
Maintenance on the Universal Cattle Guard is simple and inexpensive. All you have to do is hook a chain to the "D" rings and drag the cattle guard a few feet which removes any debris, mud or dirt that has built up inside the cattle guard. Once the debris is removed drag it back into position fold out the end wings and re-attach the chains to the gate posts.
Because of the fact that the pipes sit on the ground, the Universal Cattle Guards are very animal friendly, eliminating the chance of the animal's leg falling through the openings and becoming badly injured. The rounded nature of the pipe in the Universal Cattle Guard does not allow for suitable footing for hoofed animals, causing the animal to second guess challenging the obstacle.
Universal Cattle Guards are made of new steel pipe, cut to length, arranged to create a smooth arc for ease of vehicle crossing. Because Universal Cattle Guards are deigned to sit virtually on flat ground, they require no pit. NEPA issues are all but non-existent. Since the Universal Cattle Guard creates a mild speed bump effect, we recommend the use of appropriate signage.
